First Cider Tall Pour Competition

The age-old tradition of the cider tall pour, originating in Spain's Asturias region, is set to make waves in the United States with the inaugural Cider Tall Pour Competition. This exciting event, sponsored by the esteemed Beer Belly Bar and Tumalo Cider Company, will celebrate the artistry and skill involved in pouring cider with finesse and precision.

The practice of pouring cider from a bottle into a glass from a certain height has been part of the Asturias region's gastronomic culture since time immemorial. In this case, it's natural cider made without filtering and intended for consumption in a local area.Dating back centuries, the cider tall pour has been a cherished practice in Spain, where it is not merely a serving method but a demonstration of craftsmanship and dedication to quality. Participants in the competition will showcase their ability to pour cider from a height, allowing the beverage to aerate and develop its full flavor profile while captivating audiences with their technique.

Beer Belly Bar, known for its commitment to promoting craft beverages and fostering community engagement, is proud to bring this tradition to American shores in collaboration with Tumalo Cider Company. The competition aims not only to entertain but also to educate attendees about the rich cultural heritage behind cider production and pouring techniques."We are thrilled to introduce the first Cider Tall Pour Competition in the US," said [Organizer's Name], organizer of the event. Just outside the world famous coastal city of San Sebastian—where more Michelin star restaurants are located per square foot than anywhere else in the world—is Astigarraga, the heart of Basque country cider. The hilly town of 5,000 is surrounded by 21 sagardotegis, each one being a combination of ciderhouse and restaurant.

Asturian cider and the cider ritual

There are sparkly, clear ciders produced for birthday and other celebrations, but what we are interested in here is sidra natural (natural cider), of the kind made by small operators who ferment their pressed apple mash in a natural process that involves no artificial additives.
